I'm looking for large, not-too-aggressive tankmates for my dat, fire eel, uaru, and ornate bichir. The LFS has a large, male chocolate cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis). I've never kept this species before, and don't know too much about them. I've talked to a couple of people who have said they are pretty peaceful for their size. Do you think it would make a good addition to the tank?

Hey
For YOUR set up, it would be a good choice, but occassionally they can be pricks. But your other fish sound like they will be good tankmates.

yes, they are very hardy fish. not too menacing like many cics. they do tend to be somewhat territorial (flares up when a fish goes near his spot, but never gives chase, he's 8in.) i'd say it's similiar in temp. to a uara (which you have already) i have mine in with a uara, silver aro, and RTGG.

Agree with other post. I have heard of a few that can be aggro, but most of my experience with them is docile for the size.

I have two chocolates and even when my tank was overly aggresive they stayed pretty calm. They have been beat up and recover pretty well. Also becomming one of my favorite cichlids.

I have to warn you these guys are awesome very smart and they are peaceful. But mine at feeding time I can't make eye contact with him. Because he gets mad if anyone comes to greet me at the tank and he will chase them off lol. Greedy ass I got him for free with my flagtail. Well at night I would here a banging in the tank room. Greedy ass was trying to knock the food container to get at it. So one day I turn on my tank to feed the crew my clown loaches are begging and I am like where's coco puff. He's now where I start to worry and I am like no one would of killed him and eaten him. I look every where he's on the floor almost dried out gill moved once I put him in a ten gallon to see if he will make it. He did and with in a couple hours he's at it again in the ten gallon trying to get food. He's back in the the 150 and I covered it completely and I have to put the food out if site.
