So my removal of my 7" chocolate male has taken a different direction. I went to my local lfs to see if they had adequate room to take him, and I saw a beautiful girl (chocolate, fish) around an inch or so smaller than him. Got me thinkin, and got them to hold her for me.. Him and my geo are soon gonna not be safe in my ca/sa community, so I was thinkin of putting them in their own 55. If the 2 chocolates DO decide to pair up, how is their aggression compared to other americans? And you think 55 is good for the 3? I was thinking of doing the planted/wood thing with it as well.. Anything helps I've got the weekend to get this new project goin.. Thanks team

Chocolates get way too big for a 55, they're thick messy fish like Oscars. You'd want at least a 75G for a pair.

What kind of Geophagus? Unless it's a smaller species like 'G'. steindachneri, Orange Head variety, etc. it's going to grow too large for a 55 as well - I'm presuming this tank is 12" wide, most species get to 10+" plus their streamers.

Well as always nothing is permanent in this hobby, Just a common tank I can get a complete setup for a good price.. My geo is a Surinamensis, hobby I presume, and has grown about 2 inches in the past 3 years! Just curious if he will be ok in a tank with a "possible" breeding pair. I'm sure in the next year or so I will upgrade..

In a 55 with a breeding pair of Chocolates? Definitely not, I still feel the tank isn't large enough for just those two fish on their own.

Upgrades are fine but there's very few members here worth trusting when they say "I'll be getting a bigger tank xx months down the track" - it's definitely not always the case.

well I havent been a member here for too long, nor a reputable known person; but I know my s**t and treat my fish like just like the boxer or jack russel here as pets.. no offense japes.

Just my 1st time with the Chocolate species (having had him for a few months, love them) and want the best. Wondering if the 55 will be fine for my broke as* for the time being, just trying to START a planted peaceful sa community.

Chocolates actually get very aggressive and territorial during breeding, although they are otherwise quite mellow. So I'd be worried about your Geo... My lfs has a proven breeding pair of 7" chocolates for $50. I've been drooling over them for months now but just don't think I'd be able to house them.
