Hi Guy's & Gals

In my Lfs they have a perticular speices of Snakehead and they have named it " The Chocolate Snakehead "

I haven't seen it befor. They are juvinile's in the lfs at around 4/5" long and really skinny if i can remember rightly it looks a brown tanned colour with a lighter browm mark along it's body it also has an Ocellus near the claudel fin.

I was thinking about buying one and adding it to my tank but if they are too agressive and won't really go well with the fish i have then i won't bother.

I would like to find out there real name as i've done a search on the Chocolate snakehead and had no luck !

All help apreciated !

Possibly Channa asiatica, A really great looking fish. I will try and locate some pics.
Its a smaller SH growing to about 8"-10". Not considered aggressive by snakehead standards.

How much and where? Cheers :)

If it is in fact c. asiatica, i would have to say it is one of the more aggressive channa species. Very aggressive!! Be warned!??! :uhoh:

DanDan,try this site for info, http://www.snakeheads.org/ I was hoping you would post,we have got to go to Harrogate next week and will have a few hours to kill, thought we might scoot down to Tropical World at Roundhay,do they have many tanks? (we want to see the parrots as well) Thanks,Karl. By the way,I have seen channa gachua labeled as chocolate snakehead before but that seemed to be just because they were brown.

Tropical world is Fantastic ! it's not as big as most public aquariums but it is a good place to vistit they have a massive aquarium and it is loaded with Pacu that are around 4 foot they are huge and they have a massive silver arowana, Redtail Catfish al sorts.

Once you have visited the fish area there is a trail which moves through to the desert area which has lizards running round freely and Meercats in a penn also desert birds flying freely.

After the desert it moves on to the Tropical Rainforest area where theres a large waterfall tropical birds and butterflys flying freely and HUGE !!!! Koi's in the pools.

Then there's all sorts of other animals Theres a nocternal area Spider and reptile area monkey area.

You will enjoy it !

i know the channa maruloides has an black / white ocella ; and the marulius has a orange ocella on the cuadal fin.

It look like it could very well be channa maruloides but it dosent have a black Ocellus ( Circle near the tail fin ) it's a red colour !

I think i'm just gonna buy it and place it in my tank and take a pic and show you guys ! think it would be easier !
