I have a 4" chocolate cichlid. I've heard and read that a large part of this particular cichlids diet, in the wild, is made up of insects. Ever since I got it it has continuously shown behaviour which would back this up. It loves nothing more than patrolling the top 4" of water, as if waiting, or looking for a morsel to fall in. I've already tried it on crane flys (daddy long legs), and it loved them.
I was in the local pet store at weekend buying some frozen mice for my son's corn snake and then I saw something which give me a light bulb moment.....tubs of live crickets.....for lizards, snakes and spiders.
I don't have much doubt that my chocolate will have a right go at these, my only concern is the shells/hard wing cases. Will my young choc be ok with these or are they something more suited to an adult fish which has the throat hardware to better deal with them? Are there any other concerns feeding these crickets or locusts etc?
