Hi all,

Among the following gars, please advice and rank them by aggressiveness.
1) Alligator Gar
2) Florida Gar
3) Spotted Gar
4) Tropical Gar

Need help as I am thinking of adding a Gar to my setup.

Many thanks.

Cheers,
Brother Nerd

1. Alligator gar
2. Alligator gar
3. Alligator gar
...
10. Alligator gar
11. Tropical gar.
12. Spotted and florida gar

The alligator gar is by far the most aggressive gar I've had. I've heard tropical can be aggressive too, but mine has been cool so far.
Florida (and I assume spotted, though I doubt you'll find one) arent aggressive at all. But small fish that fits into its mouth will probably get eaten.

As djr83 said Alligators gars are the most aggressive. Followed by other atractosteus genus gars, in this case tropical. Then the florida gar.

What is your current setup like that you are planning on adding the gar to?

A gator isn't really an option with tankmates in most cases.

A florida or tropical would be fine in that size of tank. With that said there are some potential compatibility issues. The aro, datnoid, atabapo pike and clown loaches could all lead to compatibility issues, which could result in either a dead gar or tankmates.

asian arrow? heard they get along better with gar then silver,ect... i had nothing but problems... and same with my vennys, once they settled in and matured abit they started harssing the gar. imo your variables will equal dead fish one way or another with your stock list.
