Got some estimates for our future fish tank today...bought brand new.
300 gallon acrylic tank, 8' long, 2 ' deep (was driving when i got the call and can't remember the width...think it was) 26" wide = $2100
Black stand = $1100
Canopy = $599

Filtration is our own responsibility, as dayak is hijacking bomber's plan and we'll do something very similar.

I don't mind the expense but i've seen fuller setups on craigslist for less than $1500. Hell, i saw a 450 gallon in modesto for $500 a few weeks ago. If i would have realized then what i realize now it would have been mine. Needless to say it's long flippin gone. :screwy: I'm a retard, i know.

Anyway, you guys think it would be worth it to buy this new, warrantied tank, stand, and canopy? Any reason that i shouldn't put on my big-girl panties and be patient for that next sweet deal on craigslist?

I would wait for the next deal on craigslist. You guys live in a perfect part of the country for big tanks at great prices. Plus, if you're keeping the aro, you'll want at least the 96x30x24 300g tank or bigger.

be patient and save yourself thousands that you can put towards filtration, lighting and fish

i agree with the guy above, i've seen 300 gallon acrylic setups for only $700! wish i had cash at the time, but now I can't find any more good deals

i don't see why you would pay that price....you know another steal will show up on craigslists. you won't even be able to get half what you're thinking about paying when you have to unload this tank several years down the road

What did you not know before? the price of these tanks brand new?

I hear the good sense. i've seen some deals on craigslist recently that i want to snap up just to resale...but the big ones seem so far and few between, but when they are there, they are definitely hot. So hard to wait though. Guess we should build the filtration system first, at any rate.

That's a lot of money! I would buy used. I sold my 400g 6x3x3 acrylic setup with steel stand, sump, pump and plumbing for $2k. If you look around, you could even find cheaper.

I'm curious too, about glass vs. acrylic, and possibly getting a 400 gal instead. We want another arowana eventually, and i'd like to recreate the very first monster tank i ever experienced:

Silver aro
Clown
Ghost knives
Upside down cat
and something else i will know when i see...but can't remember the name of....was over 16 years ago, so my memory is hazy.
