i have a 48x15x15 with one large piece of wood 29x13x6 its going to be planted with anubias and swords. I would like an active aggressive specimen for it but i dont want a wolf, snakehead (illegal) or pike cichlid.
What should i put in it?

German Blue Ranm pair with some neon tetras or some rummy nose tetras and some cory cats

That dosent sound to aggressive to me...

sounds like a puffer fish is exactly what your looking for. theyr great as single specimens and awesome to watch feed and are very active(depending on species). There are tons of fw puffer species that will stay under 8" and thrive in your tank(fangs, congo, abei, arrowhead and palembang to name a few). check out **************.com, they have tons of great info and friendly helpful people.

Why don't you try some tinfoil barbs and some tiger barbs all are active. You could also try some of the smaller new world cichlids, such as, Convicts,Jaguars, etc

when i meant aggressive i meant predatory, ive had most of the things already suggested and i never have success with puffers any other options?

Every cichlid i have had digs up plants and i like having some unmolested specimen plants around
