should i use a siphon to get the water out of the tank into my wet/dry or should i just drill holes on the side of the tank and put a pvc pipe there to just allow the water to drain out?

what do you have?

I have DIY HOB overflows, they work great and keep up with my pump at 700GPH...

the HOB's will be easier then drilling your tank... but just remember that which ever way you choose to go make sure that the syphon breaks about 1" below the rim of the tank and that there is enough space in the sump for the water so there is no flooding in a power outage....

or possibly use a check valve so water can only go one way in the plumbing...

If you can drill it go for it. Drilled tanks are awesome.

wouldnt drilling a hole near the top of the tank and attaching a pipe connecting it to a wet/dry be just as effective as an overflow?

It would literally be an overflow.

what are you going to do if you drill the hole close to the bottom and you loose power to your pump?

your tank is going to drain to where the hole is...
