Woke up the other morning to find my smallest peacock bass had an otto wedged in his mouth and was having a hard time putting it down...

At first I tried spooking the fish to see if he'd spit it out. No luck.

So then I yelled for my girlfriend to bring her tweezers as I fished him out with a net.

I held the fish, while she tweezed. Let me tell you, that probably hurt so bad, the otto was wedged in there TIGHT!

Took the otto, tossed it in a different tank.

Dosed the bass tank with stress coat. I thought for sure the little guy would die, but he's doing A-okay!

Do you think he wouldve died, had i left him alone?

it's possible that it could've died but every pbass i think just swallow their food wether its big or small its going into the stomach somehow... but iono but it would have been possible due to the size of your otto...

yeah, i've seen pics of pbass in the dead fish thread, that died due to food being to large for them.

that was my concern here.

he would have been fine, my feeders came with an extra huge one and i thought he was going to choke too but he ended up spitting it out after holding it in there for a few hours.

nestway to spook em when they have a fish u dont want them to eat aka not feeders chase em like a heap and they usually let go!

It definitely COULD have killed him, but I don't think it would have. When my big guy was smaller and my friend had him he ate a cat. I believe spines were stuck. He eventually was able to spit it out.

i had to save mine a while back, tweezers and scissors save lives lol

wow! close call by the looks of the pic if was past the point of getn spat out!! thinku made the right decision dude!! well done

some pics i promised... he couldnt swallow it
