I have a 125 long with white sand 3 to 5 inches thick. Tank has nothing else in it what would be a good looking ray to house for its life span or at least 5 to 6 years

thats still pretty small, you want the largest amount of bottom area as possible since the rays will spend most of their time scooting around on the ground. putting them in a 4x2 is like putting a dog in a bathroom for its life. ya it can live, but it wont be comfortable and happy.

Wow, in a 24" wide tank you will have no problem keeping a pair of Hystrix or maybe even reticulated in there for 5 years...Maybe even longer. Motoro's maybe 2 years for female 3 for male?

I have never seen a Hystrix that would be too large for a 24" wide tank. Even 1 that is 12-14" diameter (if they ever get that big) would probably not touch the sides.

If you use the 125 which i would bet is 18" you could still get 3 years or so out of a Hystrix, as long as you maintain a good waterchange schedule.

Now i would have to agree, sand is too thick!
