I have a 35 gallon hexagonal aquarium set up for a saltwater reef. I need a protein skimmer, and am not sure which skimmer to purchase. I don't know which size or brand to buy. I am on a budget, so pricing is important as well as quality. Any suggestions? I appreciate your time and advice. Thanks! My cell number is 419-632-5553. Text me if you want. I will be out shopping, so promptness is beneficial for me today. I also have an email. It is daredevil1_89@yahoo.com either text or email me, both will be accessible via my phone. Or you can just simply reply to this thread; I will receive an email notice as well. ANYWAY! lol Thanks a lot.

lol. simple, hardy and efficient... asm is a decent brand after they redesigned their impeller but honestly, all protein skimmers are the same. dont buy into unique styles of skimming or doodads and nobs. as for size, the bigger the better. go as big as money can buy.

post up some brands that are readily available in your area for your budget and im sure we can tell you whats best

You won't get much response for saltwater equipment on a predominantly freshwater forum. There is a marine forum farther down on the site.

Anyway, I think the best bang for your buck is a Sea Clone. It is a HOB style which is probably what you want since you don't have much room for a sump. It has gotten a bad reputation from people that don't understand the design, but really it isn't a bad unit. It isn't 'plug and play' and will need a little bit of adjusting from time to time. For the money, it is hard to beat. There are a lot of modifications out there and most that I have seen actually make the unit worse (a lot of people screw with it without really understanding the physics behind it that makes it work). The only modification that you should really do is replace the air valve with a needle valve if you don't like how the original controls the air flow.
