Currently have 2 demasoni in my tank for about the past 7 or 8 months and looking to get 2 more, problem is I dont know If I have 2 males or what in my tank and would hate to bring home 2 more males! What can I look for to help identify atleast 1 female??
Thanks

From what I can find the males and females have identical coloration so the best way to sex them is by size and behavior...both of which are hard to tell while at the store. If it's a quality LFS maybe they'll try to identify some for you, otherwise you'll just have to play the odds and assume that by having a large enough quantity you'll get some females in the mix.

I had a bunch awhile back and the key difference was males were larger and also their blue and black coloration was more intense than the females.

Just picked upp all 5 earlier, didnt realize they were slightly smaller than the 2 i had and now my Livingstonii is playing dead tryimng to eat 1. smh...Gonna have to go buy a 10 gallon tomorrow.

Demasoni prefer to be in colonies of at least 20 fish due to the conspecific aggression.

If less in number than 20 you will fing particular fish will get beaten up and eventually you will end up with 2 or even one fish.

Ditch the Livingstoni and get another 12 demasoni and you'll have fry in no time.

Thanks for the info! I currently have 6 left and to my surprise the aggression seems to be spread out and everyone seems fine, have a lot of rock work and plants and hiding places. So quick question, am I less likely to have breeding with only 6 Demasonis? Let me add too that I believe my dominant male has paired up with a mate.
