When I purchased my 6 inch silver yesterday 11/02/07, I asked the store owner what they had been feeding him and they said pacifica plankton. I bought the plankton and started feeding it to him. He eats the plankton but I was wondering if there is anything else that would aid in the growth, and health of my young silver? Also, is he old enough for live food, and if so what would be the best live food for him at this age???

yea vary diet throw in live maybe once every week or two weeks to mix things up a lil

stay away from live food. you could try bloodworms, earthworms, krill, market shrimp cut up into small pieces, cichlid pellets.

I would recommend the same

most places feed live but they generally lack the nutrition needed to sustain health and growth in the fish...however, they are always a good way to get the fish to eat if its being stubborn, if you treat and monitor the feeders before hand (and yes he can eat feeders at that size). However, I would recommend the same as those above for the overall longevity and health of the fish...try and give him some crickets, some bloodworm blocks, some beefheart (phenomenal at boosting growth rates), frozen krill, and primarily some floating carnivorous sticks. Try to hand feed at the top (though this is normally rare), but if that works you can hand feed him strips of chiken and shrimp once he gets larger if you establish that bond
