welll................for christmas i am sure im getting a 55 gallon for one of my rd.what do u guys think about that.I kno ive probalaly asked this but....would this be kool if i used black sand for subtrate.fot filters all i want on the tank are canisters.would a powerhead blow the sand everywhere.the canisters i want to use are magnums....but what do u guys think.....have u guys noticed that alot of the big canisters dont have the same flow rate as some hob filters:confused:

Pre-Xmas Congrats.

If you prudently direct the returns, or diffuse the output you should be in great shape.

Flow rates are simular between Magnum canisters and HOBs. Placement of the unit and pick-up / return tubes (you can even split them) can make the difference tho, making canisters more versatile. (analogy, difference between a broom and a vacuum - both have their place)

P.S. Make sure you don't peek xmas eve, that way it will be a surprise when you unwrap it :D .

Merry Xmas,

Dr Joe
