So I set up my 1st sand bottomed tank, 30g breeder. I have done complete water changes 10 times and the water is still cloudy. Granted, i didnt wash the sand to begin with, but its less than 30 pounds added. Its in a new tank that I am trying to cycle, but the water looks like cr@p, so i feel compeled to do water changes to save my new AC100. It's the leveling sand you can buy at Lowes, so its a bigger grain than playground sand. I have shiners in there to help cycle and everytime they move they kick up some sand and it just doesnt settle.

Is this bc the sand is still dirty? It has been washed with over 300gals of water now! I mean, the other people that add sand dont have this problem and just after a couple water changes, its crystal clear again.

How do you know when you wash the sand that its clean? I have rinsed about 80 pounds of sand like 6 times in a 50g bucket and the drain water is pretty clear, but I dont want this cloudy mess in my new 125g.

Either way, good take home before I added sand to my 125g, clean 1st.

Thanks!

Howdy,

I'd say sit it out, leave it alone. Judging from your description, I honestly doubt that the water is cloudy from your sand. Sounds more like a cycling phenomenon.

wait it out i put sand in my 75 gallon and it took a good month for the water to be crystal again, and this was white sand blasting sand still went clear again dont worry just let it be for abit.
