i spend the day out in the Mojave with my mom and her biologist friend playing with these guys, anyway i fell in love and i was wondering if anybody on here has one? or if people keep them as pets at all :) i checked the google and it doesn't seem like there are many sellers or very much good info on keeping these inflatable lizards

When I was a kid,my dad would go to the Mojave to look for rocks,he was a rockhound. My two brothers and I would spend the day catching lizards and chuckwallas.
They would become tame real fast. The most fun I had with them was hand feeding them with cactus and they loved dandelions flowers. They are escape artists.

People have chuckwallas and they make very good pets:) Their keeping its very similar to the care needed by bearded dragons and even more similar to spiney tail lizards, since both are mainly herbivors and need a very hot basking spot. There are a variety of natural species and morphotypes and even a fertile hibrid called granite chuckwalla wich exists only in captivity

Yep, care is similar to uromastyx or desert iguanas. I've never kept them personally, and I think they're protected in most of their wild range, but I have seen them for sale occasionally.

Yep they are for sale. One of the local petshops have some red tailed chucks but they are $200 each so a bit too much for me at the moment.
