Now that I have these guys positively IDed, I was wondering if any of you people have any experience in keeping them. I pretty much know nothing of their size or temperment. From what I have seen in the past 6 months since I got them is that they are really slow growers. I have them eating hikari pellets and bloodworms although the source where I got them from has them labeled as grazers. Can someone fill me in on the specifics of these guys. I have 3 of them from2.5-3.5''. A big thankyou to polomax and cookiemonster for assisting me in the IDs. Also, are those teeth that Im seeing in the last pic???

I wouldn't give them bloodworms. They should have a flake food rich in spirulina for everyday and a good quality pellet like Danachi on the off days. Mine are very easy to care for and i also have Micropthalamus and Intermedum. I love the Chuco's.

I 'll echo driftwood about a spirulina heavy diet, although I don't have godmani, I've got intermedium, according to info I've read, Chuco are primarily vegetarian, getting the small amount of protein they need from the smattering of micro/macro animal life in the algae they graze on.

Thanks guys. How big do they get? Are they overly aggro to other fish or are they a mellower cichlid. What should I keep with them as tankmates?? I cant really find any info on them......

They should be housed with other cichlids that can hold their own as godmanni may not be killers out right but won't let a passive fish live with them. my intermedium didn't bother smaller fish but anything close in size was fair game.

I grew mine with Viejas with no issues. It could hold its own but was never too aggessive. Mine maxed out at 12-13 inches but was very thick.

Here’s a picture of the only one I have left, a female. She’s nasty, but only to male Chuco’s at breading time. She loves very fast moving, clear cool water, and she eats Spirulina Pellets. Can you post more pictures of your Chuco and post them please.

The one in the picture is a female. At 2.5 to 3.5 inches it may be a bit hard to sex them. Yes, they do have teeth, I have a good picture showing her teeth somewhere. I’ll try to find it and post it for you. The males are supposed to be much larger and much more colorful then the females. They are VERY fast moving fish and they love fast moving water. She likes to play in the exhaust of my sump return. Every now and then she likes to bang her head into the glass, I’ve not figured this on out yet. As stated above by duanes, they are vegetarians and they really need a proper diet. My understanding is most never make it to maturity and blot is they most common cause of death. When mature, the females turn dark grey or black starting under the mouth all the way back to the tails.

Have a 11" male Godmani in my 12' community. He tried to bully the others when I first put him in but my male Dow and a few others soon put him right
