They are herbivorous, riverine cichlids from Honduras. I'd say this guy will maybe get an inch or two bigger but he is already getting quite a girth to him. He even get a small hump when he's really happy. I raised my 2 pairs of these on mostly a vegetarian flake based diet with only the last 2 years when they were over 6" giving more higher protein food like Hikari Carnivore sticks broken in half or smashed up. They get 1-2 50% water changes a week and have a FX5 and XP4 for filtration on the 190L they are in. Not a fish for the inexperienced. You get lazy on water changes and they do not do well. I'll get some more pics up soon. Thanks for the interest, they are pretty cool fish.
2.5 years old. The other pair I have is same size, they eat like oscars at this size.
Absolutely! Problem is they look and act like they want to spawn ALL the time but have only laid eggs once.
