I am conducting scientific research with my biology professor on chytrid fungal infections. This fungus infects amphibians worldwide and has a high mortality rate. It is caused by Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis. Symptoms include reddening of the ventral skin, odd extension of the hind limbs, sloughing skin (including the feet), and ulcers or hemorrage. If you see a frog with splayed hind legs, a red ventral area (bottom), lesions, hemorrage, or any other strange symptoms, I'd like to hear about it, possibly even receive a specimen. This disease has a high mortality rate and is becoming widespread. With the environmental changes as well as pollution already putting pressure on amphibian populations, this disease compounds the problems of these species.

Wanted to bump this thread. If you see a dead frog that displays any of these symptoms, please take a picture and email me. nucleotidebass@yahoo.com

Very good. I remember in one of my classes in college one of my professors had mentioned this attacking and wiping out frogs. Good luck with your research! If I may, where are you conducting your research?

Currently we are conducting research in Burnsville, MN but we are expanding outward from that region.
