Hi I knwo every fish generally is a individual but I was wondering if there is a general numbering scale on aggression of cichilids? Like a red devil could be a 10 while a firemouth might be a 5 and a angelfish might be a 3 does such a scale exist?

Most aggressive cichlids would be Dovii, Midas/Red devil, Jags, other amph species, Texas,Oscars, GT,JD,.... those are my top and then discus for the least aggressive...

There is no scale to be honest but I had a Midas who wiped out almost every single CA cichlid and new world cichlid out there. Dovii I never had one but they are notorious to kill

oscar? least aggressive cichild by far, my monos beat the crap out of my oscar and i had to remove him!!! FIREMOUTHS can beat up oscars.

BUT aggression does not mean how tough they are like kenyi would be rated a 9 in aggression and a jewel cichild could beat up a kenyi the same size as it but id rate a jewel cichlid a 6 in aggression but it would win the fight. I had a jewel cichlid kill a salvani bigger than itself. They usually win the fight and kill the other fish the same size. never seen them lose a fight if the fish is the same size.

Oscar is the biggest wimp and they are not even aggressive they dont even defend themselves i had to let my last one go he was 10 inches and my JD 5 inches kept beating on him in a 120 gallon. I want an oscar bad but they just are too weak same with firemouth my fave fish just too weak to cut it. around 4 in aggression an angel fish is 3. You can keep them with angel fish.

size does not mean aggression either DOVII is big but when a dovvii is the same size as a jag or red devil it gets the crap beaten out of it

I saw a SINGLE MIDAS beat up 2 dovii protecting their eggs and steal their eggs so a dovii is just overrated because of size their aggression seems to be around 7 they should have been able to fend off a midas there was 2, one fire star general could have fended off a single midas easy lol

No one can make a blanket statement that 1 fish will simply beat another. What we can say is what is the more common outcome and what is the less common out in some fish. There are other fish where going by experience it can go either way. Now Midas are my favorite fish. But as far as brutality being inflicted. I will say Dovi, Umbriferum, Amphilophus (Midas, Chanco), Managuense, Beani, Haitiansis, Maculicauda, Argentea. Now others may have experienced them in a different order. But I don't think you can say any fish is like a lion as being king of the jungle. I have seen all of these take a beating from a fish that you would have ever thought could beat them.
