Java fern too

My Severum ripped apart java fern but didn't touch Anubias.....south American cichlids are carvivores so the probably won't eat the plants just rip them out of the substrate and tear them up.

I have some plants in with my fish and the only ones that eat them or mess with them are the gold severum and the black belt but the jd and fm's don't mess with them and in a tank I'm starting to plant I have four kribs and they don't mess with them either but I've had rams in with plants to so it really just depends on the cichlid you try and put the plants with

I have had luck with Firemouths in the past. They can dig, but usually aren't too bad. Right now I have Rams in my planted tank, and will probably add a couple of angels. Any of your dwarf cichlids should be fine, and Discus are good in a planted tank. I've heard of people keeping convicts in planted setups too, but I don't have any experience with them (or HRP) in planted tanks.
Serverums are like goats, they will eat just about anything so a lot of people shy away from them in planted tanks. I kept a pair of JD's in a tank planted with several large anubias. They liked the setup and it was too large for them to uproot, but they would tear a leaf off every now and then.

So in direct response to your question, If anything will work it will be large, well rooted anubias or Java Fern. Also, you can attach Java, Willow, Thia, Christmas Mosses to driftwood to give you some green in your tank.

I have plants in my CA/SA community no bother. The fish don't seem interested in tuhe plants at all. The ocassional stem is up rooted, but this is more because they like to swin inside and through the plants. I have Convicts, Oscars, Green Terrors, a Firemouth and a Red Devil. However, i have had some fish be plant haters, i once had some Angels that would shred any plant. So although it could work, i wouldn't personally set up a heavily planted tank and then throw in some fish could ruin it in a matter of minutes.

It all depends on the individual fish. Some will tolerate plants, others will not. You could try to keep plants with cichlids but it might not work.
