Too big of a question. To get responses you got to narrow it down a little. South American, African(all the different lakes), Angel, discus, etc.....
Oh yeah, Welcome to MFK. Most people here are much nicer then me! LOL
for rift lake cichlids(african) i recommend the following
*pH buffering substrate like crushed coral, or other
*lots of rocks and hiding place. ( i recommend 1.5 hiding places per fish.)
*250 watt heater or 2-200 watt heaters.
* penguin 350 (75 gallon biowheel) for filtration.
* not alot of plants or brightly colored decors as it is not found in their natural habitat

now we are talkin'!
first load it up with lots of rocks for hiding places. You can load it up with more fish than other fish aquariums but you have to consider the adult fish sizes when planning. Remember the extra filtration and water changes that go with heavy stocking. You will find that with over stocking the fish will give up chasing aggression because they don't want another fish to take their spot.
You may want to do an all male tank of different fish. The males are typically the ones with more intense color. When planning your wish list of fish, check out their diet requirements and that may help narrow it down from the so many awesome cichlids. Good luck.
