Extract is poured directly into the sump where it is pumped up into the tank:

Damn man. Unbelievable. Wasn't it you Scat that was using oak leaves to add tannis to one of your tanks, or am I mistaken? It's been a while...

That is so rad. After seeing this I did the same thing. I loved the way it looked, but when the leaves broke down it was a PITA to always clean the intake of my HOBs. I really like this Black Water idea. This is going to be another idea I steal from you. :D This may be a dumb question, but how much peat do you suppose I use to do a 5g? Or can you not over do it?

You could use 1 cup of peat in 2 quarts of water to create your extract and then just save this in an empty milk jug.

In a 5 gallon tank I would then add a tablespoon, maybe 2, of extract, let it circulate and then check your pH. Go that route until you find what amount of extract gets your parameters to the desired level. I wouldn't add too much at once in that small a tank! Your pH might drop off the charts... :nilly:

Very cool, I am excited to try this, and I will take your advice. Awesome DIY for sure. Thanks Scat!

What does this do? Is it just to make your water look darker? Never ever seen or heard of this (Freaggin newbies:D:ROFL:)
