I added a whole lot more oak leaves to the tank. 2 garbage bags full all total. The water is now so dark that even with a flash and 120 watts of light above the tank the pictures are incredibly dark. It's so dark now that even the bright gold color of the Cichla is becoming difficult to see... both of these pictures have been lightened for viewing purposes.

Same fish, no tanins:

I think I'll add even more leaves, a 3rd garbage bag full. Both the Hoplarchus and the Motoro rays have started to exhibit breeding behaviour. I'm really curious to see what effect the massive amounts of tanins have on the fish and their behaviour.

What do you think? :grinno:

love it....

Very cool Mark!! What size tank is it? I'm thinking on trying it on the 55gal first to see how it works out before I attempt the 300gal. Got the Chaets and the Uaru in there...maybe it will have the same effect. Fingers crossed.

Did you wash the leaves first? How do you keep them from floating or getting stuck to the filter intakes?
