I've always fed my peacock bass frozen krill... and they've always loved it. But recently i've noticed them eating a piece, spitting it back out, eating it again and spitting it back out and leaving it. Almost as if they dont like it anymore or have lost intrest. They still love to eat all the other foods that they usually eat, like pellets and blood worms, but not the krill. ANy ideas? or is it just part of there behavoir?

How long have you had the frozen krill? If you've had it for a while it might be starting to get freezer burn and that will affect the flavor/nutrition of it. It is common behavior of cichlids to take a food item and spit it out repeatedly. Its like a taste test thingy. Sometimes they will take it and sometimes they won't. Try freeze dried krill, MAKE SURE YOU SOAK IT FIRST....or at least squeeze it under water before feedin it to them. Don't sweat it too much, as long as they are still eating the other foods there isn't anything really to be concerned about. I hope that answers ur question....if not....I'm sure there are other members here that will give yaz their $0.05 ...hehe....

maybe their tired of the same food?

i feed my fish crab meat and they love it. i have about 20 baby in the tank and they eat it more then the big ones do

My question is related to Jeremy's reponse.

How old is the krill?

I toop have encounter this amongst most cichlids. I wouldn't be too alarmed by it. If they are eating the other foods, that should be a good sign.

Ok thanks guys, I just got the krill about a month ago, but theres no telling how long the LFS has had it in their freezer. I wasnt too concerned because they were still eating other foods.

Thanks for your info guys!

whats best for baby peacocks?

When mine were young all they would take was blood worms and beef heart.

Maybe you need to mix up your feeding and keep them guessing.
