I was wondering about how big is the largest Kelberi anybody here knows about ?

How big can you expect them to get on average ?

How is their temperment ?

Can they co-exist with uaru's or oscars ?

Why are they still so expensive ?

Farm raised still sell for almost $200.

Is that high or the going rate ?

I am interested in adding a Kelberi to my community so I would like to know more from the experts here before making my decision.

I'm no expert but do own a few F1 bahia kel. I believe F1 are popping up all over the place but there are only one or two quality breeding pair. Many are hybrids and sold as bahias so buyer beware. My bahias are non-aggressive towards each other and tank mates (severums, snook). Almost never have torn fins or tails. I would love to try the wild caught kel if they become available.
See Wes's comment. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...17737-F1-Kelberi-Bahia-update-after-13-months

1. Size: 24'' Assuming, I always expect max size in the wild and adjust tank size to that. I know it will take a LONG time for them to hit the 24'' mark, but assume for the max size.

2. Temperament: Depends on the fish. I had mellow Kelberi's and I also had PITA kelberi's. It will differ from fish to fish.

3. Tank mates. Read #2

4. Why the price. Supply and demand. As long as people are asking $200 for a kelberi, people will pay $200 for a kelberi.

5. Price. Wild Kelberi's are hard to find and at a small size to boot. A lot of people when purchasing a kelberi don't want the larger kels, only the smaller ones. Thus why people will buy them for $200 then to buy a 12'' for the same price.

6. Going rate. $200 is average (I paid $200-$250 ea for 9x12''+ kelberi's. 5 wild and 4 bahia's). I think Fish heaven is selling Kels for $110@4''. Add shipping and you'll still get it for around $200.

Bahia is just another type of kelberi. They are being bred overseas. Best looking kel around right now. I have one Bahia and one wc kelberi. Wouldn't sell them for anything and they only eat live. Unreal fish

Any photos to show the difference.

I also see peacock bass listed as kelveri. Is that just a mistake in spelling for kelberi or is that another type of species.

I'm considering getting 1 of the kelberi.

A LFS has a few farm raised 4 inchers for $190.

Is this a good price or rip off ?

Miss spelling. Kelberi's is the correct spelling (well that's how I've been spelling it). $190 is a fare price, depending if it's wild caught or captive bred. Fish Heaven is a vendor on MFK and he has Bahia's.

These are the two types. The Bahia is the golder one and wild one is the greener mono looking one with all the spangles.
