Hey,
I could grab 4 kelberi for 16 Euro each but the information on this species is somewhat confusing.
I am looking for a tank mate for my larger bichirs (Polypterus bichir, lapradei, endlicheri, ornatipinnis).
Originally I planned a spotted gar and other predatory species but I would not feel comfortable keeping a stiff fish of around 20in in the tanks I own.
I currently do have a 78.7"L by 21.6"W by 20"T tank (and 9 smaller ones) and I am aiming for a 70.8"L by 27.5"W by 23.6"T tank as soon as the first bichir exceeds 16".
Besides the bichirs I am getting a lima shovelnose but that's pretty much it.

16 bucks per kelberi seems like a "once in a lifetime" offer to me so I am kind of interested in them.
Sources on the internet claim the common max lengths is 12" to 14" which would be 100% fine with me but other sources state a max lengths of 18" and more which personally would push it/ be too large for a group of somewhat active cichlids in those tank sizes.

Since pretty much nobody in Germany keeps kelberi I would like to ask the people who have actually kept them on here what your experiences are regarding the max. sie and compatibility with bichirs and what your opinion is on me buying them.

The internet has no clue....Kelberi become big fish. 24" at least with massive mouths and girth. I am not versed in metric sizing but 300 gallon is where i would start for a lifetime home. Bigger always better!!

Hey,
alright, thank you!
I'll go with the snooks/ Petenia splendida as originally planned then.
I won't have to worry about housing those docile giants long term.

Do you know why pretty much every second source states kelberi max out at unter 18"?
