one of my LFS just got a batch of what they call cichla lukani, what exactly is Lukani?? is that just a mono??? any info please !!! any pics of them all grown up?? i would like to know what type of patterns they get. thanks !!!

Got pics? Never had of that, not even a species. Collection point maybe?

I believe lukanani is the hawiian name for cichla, probably just a misspelling of that

Lukanani ocell from Hawaii

Its not an actual specie (its actually usually either ocellaris or monoculus), but a local name given to the fish. It is found in Hawaii.

Thats what my LFS calls all cichla. They apparently weren't aware that there were more than 1 "species". I asked about tems and they showed me two monos and said that they might look speckled when they grow.

Im from Kauai, Hawaii and never heard that term in my life. Dont know about the other islands but everyone on my island calls cichlas Tucunares. Also i believe that all the cichla in hawaii are ocells....well at least on Kauai.

Ocells in Oahu also but we call them tucs.
