okay guys i need some help, i purchased some strain of mono ( about 9") from a LFS and i havent been able to get him to eat anything. he went the first almost week and a half with no food because he would not take pellets, carni sticks, fresh shrimp, or fresh fish. i gave him some goldfish after that initial week and a half, just to force something into his system. what can i do, aside from starving the fish to help coax it to eat other things??

Problem is that alot of times when a cichla is that size they will only eat what they are used to being fed. So if they were being fed only feeders you will have trouble converting him. I would always ask the LFS what the cichla are currently being fed and would even ask to have them feed it in front of me.

There is a thread in the stickys about how to convert from feeders but havent personally tried that method might be harder now that your cichla is a little bigger. You never know till you try. Good luck!

If you can't convert him/her PLEASE do not feed goldfish as a staple. Breed convicts or something as feeders.

Silver sides. Silver sides are a good starting point. As stated a (Not post number 3) there is a sticky about converting food for cichla. But, if you have space for feeders, QT them first, then feed to your cichla. Mono's are pretty easy to convert. IME

yeah goldfish suck, fun to watch though.
I feed mine hikari sticks and pilchards somtimes, mine aren't really into shrimp.

Do u have room for another p.bass? If so try get one that eats pellets and that might help trigger him to change. Jus a thought, and besides 2 looks better than one and it will help him frenzy at feeding time.

Sik.10a what are pilchards? I've had good luck using other fish that eat sticks and pellets to convert them off live .... good luck and at that size it will take time...

I think pilchards are also called sardines, not a 100% sure on that though.
