So, me and my buddy went to a big lfs store together and bought some nice, stable size (10¨) Cichla Monoculus. I bought myself 2, told the guy if possible 1/1 and my friend wanted 3, if possible 1/2.
We went home, all went good, Cichlas were stable and eating after a day. Now, my asian Arowana didnt like the Cichlas. He didnt attack them viciously, but he constantly showed them whos boss and they seemed to be quite stressed and in fear of him. So I brought my 2 Monos to my friend, he has a big ~550g tank with lots of space, still a bit driftwood (big pieces) and just some bigger plecos. He said it was all fine and good so far - then, a day after I brought them my two, he said the group of 5 now started to fight a lot.
He waited a few days hoping once they'll have their ranks sorted out within the group it'll get better, but today, about 5 days later he said its still the same and he now took out one of the trouble makers.
Now my question is, since I'm not an expert with Cichlas and those were my first, is this normal ??? All I see is videos on youtube of bit tanks with huge CIchlas (or also smaller sized ones), in groups that arent fighting at all. What might be the problem? 2 or 3 males? Something else?
