Hi everybody .I have a pair of monos and they breed yesterday .The eggs look fertile and i am wondering in how many days the babies start to swim.I already put a divider to protect them cause the last 2 times the parents eat the eggs.
When the babies start to swim i will transfer them in a smaller tank with a part of water from the parents tank.I am thinking to feed them powder food (spectrum growth formula for babies).Has anyone try that?Any advice is welcome.

crush high quality flakes to dust, 3 days or so to hatch , 3 days or so with egg sack, then they feed.
or get a "coffee grinder" and bust up some quality pellets
my 2 cents

what he said i will put a sponge filter in your main tank for awhile then put it in the fry tank later. and may i ask are you selling the fry when they hatch?

dude is in tasmania, i doubt shipping would be cheap, lol but i love the hustle , that was my first thought too

i thought the same thing i was immediately think, yup could use one of those , or a pair of these would be sweet, all the while forgetting that im running out of places to put tanks lol

Thanks both of you for your help.I have 3 sponge filters in the main tank and i will put 1 of them to the small tank as you said.As for the food i will feed them a mix of dry fish that i already make it powder plus baby growth formula plus crushed high quality flakes.I am thinking to add plankton in the mix cause it has more than 60% protein.Today is the 2nd day and they look good. You can see with the magnifying glass that the tail already start to develop and a tiny dark mark coming where the eyes have to be.
It seems that all of them are fertile as the colour is yellow to orange and not white. They must be over a thousand and i am very excited.I have a tank running ready to put them in with 2 sponge filters, a filter with zeolite ,
a UV sterilizer and 3 automatic feeders cause i want to feed them 10-12 times per day.
Any thoughts about that?
cheers

Today i vacuum about 500-600 babies and i put them in the small tank.It took me about 7 hours to vacuum them one by one and clean them from the rest eggs who had fungus.
Hope tomorrow to start swimming and the day after i think i will star feeding them.

Finally the next 6-7 days i lost all off the babies. The mistake that i ve done was that i took them too early from the parents tank. Now i have babies again and today is the 5th day and i lost only 30-40 that they had trapped in the dirt and the fungus. They are already close to 0.5cm and hope tomorrow to be free swimming and we ll see what it will happen. Now i have more information and i hope to save and grow up plenty of the babies.
