I'm thinking of getting two cichla. What do you guys recommend for a 5x2 tank?

what species?
what is the max size?
what is the most sought after cichla by cichla enthusiasts?
how is the temperment?

I would suggest a couple of Monocs or Orino since they are common in the hobby and are some good cichla to start out with. Once you feel comofortable with them and are packing on size you cann add other species...and upgrade tank size. They will hit the high 20's inch wise.

Monocs are pretty neutral for cichla standards, while Orino get a little aggressive as they grow.

Most sought after? Overall, probably would be Fogo. I would prefer some Xingu III myself, so you will get varying opinions.

Fave Cichla? varies...lol

agreed....
but monos and orinos both can get to 2 feet or bigger...
most species will.

kelberi and intermedia are supposed to get smaller.
but both are hard to find and expensive.
although kelberi are becoming much easier to find now adays at low prices.

In my opinion a 5x2 footprint is too small. If you wanted to keep cichla in this tank, the best would be Cichla intermedia IMO.

if my only option was a 5 x 2 aquarium, i would go with orinos.. they grow much slower than most other species of cichla and they have the most awesome colors, except of course, for kelberi.

for the price, and availability, orinos are the way to go. if you have unlimited funds, and you want the rarest cichla, and don't mind that their colors are kinda boring, go for intermedia..
