My pond is going on the patio . Only one wall is screened the rest are bricked. Its more like an extentsion of my house than a patio. If the temp drops a bit than I will cover the screened wall and add a 400 watt heater. If your pond is sealed and covered properly and if you add a heater the temperture will not be a problem. I am in tampa and it only gets cold here during the first two weeks on january after that winter is over. In florida we have two seasons summer and fall lol that about it.

Ah, I thought you meant that you would not need a heater when you said "heat won't be a problem". I live just outside Orlando. It can get below 70 for 4 months. But yeah, if you covered it and put a large heater in there, you'll be able to keep them alive. The shelter that the covered lanai gives will be a definitely plus.

I had my pool out in my garage, that sometimes got into the single digits.

Of course I had a top of the line heater keeping it at 82 degrees while it was snowing out.

It will be MUCH more easier to manage the temp in central flordia then here in WA. Make the pond in ground, or just insulate it... Just cover the pond at night or on a cold day and it will keep its heat in.

You should easily be able to keep the pond warm with just a few drop in heaters like some 250 watt ebo jaggers.

Any ideas about the dimensions of the pond? Should it be wider and shallower or shorter and deeper? What size would you reccomend for 2 monos , an ocelleris and a perruno cat?

The lanai cover is exactly what I was thinking... It should greatly reduce the amount of heat lost.

why not make an awesome pond with like 10 cichla and a few larger catfish?

My 10x10 was alright size. When i make a new one it will probably be 15x15 or something and around 3 feet deep.

If you just want a kool and easy cichla pool go with 10x10x3 feet.

the bigger the better though.
