I have read plenty of the threads on here about all the cichla there are but I like Orinos alot. I realize they are happiest in groups of 3+ and you need a tank of at least 180g to last maybe two years?

I just want to hear some advice and tips on these guys. I think they will be my first monster tank task. Like how long will they stay in a "normal" fish keepers tank, and any advice people have got along their experience.

Hey greg 31 there are lots of threads on here about orinos .But as far as were they are collected how fast they grow and what size tank will ultimately who knows for sure i like them alot also .So i bought 4 from rapps .iliked the darker green ones myself I got mine at the end of oct.At 1.5 now they are ranging from 4 to 5.5 inches thats pretty good growth. they are in a 70 for grow out then on to a 180 we will just have to see after that. All i can tell you is they are alot of fun but you better be ready to spend alot of time and money. But im sure yoou know that!!Oh they orinos are supossed to be one of the slower growing species.

^ Bro those raps orinos won't stay dark green, someone on here has a big guy and he said its bright neon green. IMO that's better haha. To the OP, a lot of ppl on here say you can keep orions and kels in a 240 pretty much for life because they don't grow as big as the other bass. Still bigger is always better.

On average how much you guys spend on feeding these guys a week?

csper I know they dont get the darker green but i purchased rapps because of the quality .I get what i get . Im sure they will be beautiful so im content!!! As far as feeding the bass i spend an average of 20 dollers a week and they are still small. But after they get larger i can feed them more market shrimp tilapia and pellot hopfully get my spending under control!!!And thats just 6 bass. Im sure you could do it cheaper but im spoiling them!!

ya my little solo bass right now is costing me $5 a week on feeders. I can't wait to convert him to pellets. Hulon, nah I meant it was the neon green is way better than the dark green. How aggressive is ur pack getting? I wanna get some to grow out with my solo ocell but I'm afraid they'll tear him up.

I have had my orinos in a 80 in a group of 10 until 6 inches. Then I traded a few. At 9 inches I movedthe last 3 and my other cichla into a 150, and they are in with 3 other cichla and a ton of others for now. Mine are amazing in color, and they are the rio metas. I spend $15-25 a month to feed all 35 or so of my fish.

watch out for the orinos as they tore off the tail of my azul when I intoduced him. They are pretty territorial, and they dont let any fish beat them up. BTW, my orinos are dark gold/green, and they have blue fins, and 24k gold spangles.

Ive got my two kelberi with my 4 orinos after the domination acured by my biggest orino they just seem to chase each other.Casper 2000 I just was saying i liked the dark green at first cuz of diesel mack and Jcardona .Iwill get what i get as far as color im not into traden my fish i just seem to get atached to my fish so what they are is what they are.

my 6" orino seems to not give 2 sh*ts about the 4.5" ocell i just put with it...it may nip at the ocell if it hovers in the orinos face, but thats about it.
