As a longtime hobbyist in fish keeping, I have bred many different species of tropical fish. I am currently conditioning a group of C. Intermedia that range from 10 to 13 inches in size and I have some questions for those of you who consider yourselves knowledgeable with these fishes.

Is there a way to determine male and female at the size of 10 to 13 inches? What is the smallest size that these fish have been known to breed? And lastly, do all species of male Peacock Bass acquire the hump on the head when breeding or is this only seen in certain species? Thank you in advance for any and all input. :)

The best way to determine sex is to vent them. Sexual maturity of bass is determined by age rather than size ime. As far as the hump I've even seen a few females with head humps, so that's not a surefire way to sex.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, venting is the best, but I was just wondering if somebody had figured out another way to do this by just looking at them.
