I'm interested in getting some juvie Cichla. My question is this, I don't really want to keep 3-4 of one species, I'd like to do a mixed group of Cichla. Ideally I want these species in this order:

1. Temensis
2. Pinima
3. Ocellaris

Would a group of these species around 2" do well with eachother? I know when small pbass do best in groups. I plan on starting them in a standard 75 gallon tank (48" x 18") and then upgrading them accordingly. I am aware of the size potential of these fish so please don't lecture me on tank size.

Also if someone could end this problem for me... A while back I noticed "Cichla Azul" started popping up and they were incredibly blue in color. Is this still the scientific name for this species or is there another name for them now? Thank you very much for all the help. -Chris

they call azuls, piquitti and the tems will grow faster then all the others... :) remember tems get 3 feet and i won't lecture on the size of the tank you need for tems or the filteration ;)

:iagree: ^^^ what he said ;)

agreed with boosten...
azul = cichla piquiti
tems and pinima get the biggest and also get there the fastest.

Bass are very aggressive towards each other. Don't expect perfect fish and then you'll be OK.

Thanks for the info. Maybe no on the tems but they are so badass. Didn't mean to sound like a jerk when I said the lecture part. I wonder if anyone knows of any juvenile piquita available? Thanks for replies

Azuls seem to be very hard to find of late, hardly anybody has any young ones. Keep your eyes open they may pop up.

Jeff rapps maybe your best source.

Thanks, I don't know for sure now if I want to go with pbass or not, I have a really bad problem with watching an empty tank, and since this is my show tank I'm all the more motivated to get something in it. I'll keep an eye on TUIC though. Thanks.

Like Bruce said take a look at jeff rapps site 'tangledupincichlids' he currently has wild tems 6-7", orinos 3" and pinima 2". All of which are stuning peacock bass. I would go with a small group of pinima they are awesome.

the only real issue with getting them all together at the same size is that they grow at different rates.. i have 6" orinos that i bought around the same time i bought my now 10"+ ocellaris.. and the Temensis in the tank with the ocellaris i got at 2 inches when the ocellaris were already 4 -5" and she is quickly out growing them..

other than that i have no trouble at all keeping fish together that have been raised together, and i don't have any trouble adding fish as long as they are close to the same size as the fish in the tank.
