Hi Guys

Here is the story from the top so you know the history
I brought to peacock bass . . temensis from devon i am based in birmingham this is UK by the way the distance is 150 - 200 miles the man was delivering as he works up this way he set out at 5am and arrived at 8 am so a 3 hour journey for them anyway i opened the box and they were both belly up just floating upside down the man gave them a poke and realised that both of their gills were still going so said we must immediately get them in a tank and get water circulating over their gills. I managed to wedge a towel in place that they could sit on at the surface where i have my return from my sump pushing 8000 lph. the 12 " bass died within an hour but the 15" was still gasping i got home from work the 15" had been in the towel a good 8/9 hours by now and still looked rought but had picked up slightly every now and again he would lift his own weight off the towel and hover but no intention to swim off even if i touch him in the end he decided enough was enough and swam out of the towel after about 11 hours in it on the night he was sitting on the bottom and every now and again he would lift and do a poor swim but never the less he was moving through the night he sat and didnt move at all then this morning it has now been 24 hours and he his very gently moving around but is VERY delicate and soon tires. My question is is he going to be okay? i think the long journey he ran out of oxygen they were both in a box and they are both large fish and the box was sealed around the seam so im guessing once they used the oxygen in the box they ran out????? he just done a 5 mins hover while iv been writing this but has now needed to sit down on the sand so what should i do? il attach some pics and a video if i can of the one that died and the 1 that is still fighting.

2 fish that size in a box for 3 hours, what was the guy thinking? They should have been transported in something a lot bigger with aeration going, or anaesthetised. It looks to me like the fish has ammonia poisoning and that will destroy internal organs. If it last's long enough the finnage will start to break down and rot. Fingers crossed for you mate but I've seen this before with large rhoms, good luck.

He is uprite so that's good lots of oxygen and bump up temp a lil ANd add salt he will beok just stressed

Cheers Mate the fins are quite battered which would cooperate your theory he has lifted off the ground abit now i will post some videos later to show you how hes looking its hard for you to see off pics you cant tell how he moves. thanks for the reply

Please don't tell me you handed over any cash for these. The guy who brought them up is responsible. My guess is oxygen starvation. I presume he had the both in a small polly box with the water level high, limiting the amount of oxygen in the box. I just picked up five 16" monos and took them on a 3hr 45min journey and they arrived fine.
I'm really sorry for your loss you must be gutted.
Best thing now would be to maximise aeration in the tank. If you have any powerheads or pumps get the outlet's above water so they cascade into the surface.

Salt will help but don't add it all at once. I usually do half one day, half the next. I wouldn't raise the temp though, that will decrease oxygen levels.

tim is right.. it's most likely oxygen starvation.. i never move a peacock bass even an hour drive without an air pump and air stone. peacock bass are seriously sensitive to lack of oxygen.

keep the temp moderate.. 80 - 85 degrees F. and keep the lights low and the aeration high. salt may help.. the most important thing is moving water over the gills. it'll take time for him to get his strength back, he was nearly dead.. that's kinda rough on a body.

some butter aha? am i missing something there? hes lifted himself now off the floor and just sort of hovers but i think its more the weakness yeah. and no tim i never paid when the man said there gills are still moving i said well i dont mind trying to revive them but im not paying for them in that state so at the moment iv got them for free unless the man chases me for payment. and tim are those the 5 massive ones from kent? they are stunners if they are i asked karl about them myself. i think it has all been caused in the movement of the fish anyway im going to sort these video's out for you guys now

Good luck..youve done great so far...especially not paying for em. But as stated just keep that tank well oxygenated and let him be. I wouldnt add salt either. He looks like he'll be fine since he is improving.

That guy is a tard for transporting those 2 fish in the same tub....even dumber for not having an airstone in there.

Keep up the good work...I bet he'll pull through.
