Thought I'd start a thread with pictures of some of the known Cicha variants out there. Might as well put all the Cichla pics I've gathered on the net to some good use.

I don't guarantee this is 100% accurate nor do I have all the location information. But nonetheless, it's better than nothing.

EDIT : NEW CICHLA ID THEAD

Cichla ID thread

The Cichla "Two Spot" looks interesting. You could have some of those pretty soon;)

None of these fish look anywhere close to the Florida Peacocks.

GOD DANG no idea there was that many variants out there.......some are nuts man

One must also realize these are "made up" tags for these cichla. And are not scientific classifications. In all actuality, these fish are still considered the exact same species and same scientific name.

But, as you can clearly see.... there is ALOT of locality morphs.

Good thread jed!

so im assuming alot of these tag names are made up based on locality correct?

Yes. And made up by people in the hobby. Not scientists.

Physically, besides colour, what are the differences between the varients? I mean between tems, monos, ocel etc?

Mainly size..sometimes behaviour.

Some have stated that orinos seem to be quite agressive.
