Cichlasoma amazonarum Peru

I love this male Cichlasoma amazonarum. This is the form of the species from Peru. I have him in a 55 gallon with three females. I'm waiting until he chooses one to pair with and then the other two will be moved.

Great looking fish, I've never kept them but they resemble C. bimaculatum. That male is very clean nice set-up.

your right, all species in the amazonarum/bimaculatum complex of Cichlasoma are pretty similar. Here's a couple of old photos of a wild male C. bimaculatum I used to have in my collection.

He still has at least another couple of inches of growth left, so I'm hoping those fins will get even nicer as he matures.
