Cichlasoma dimerus Anyone??

A pair of my 'next generation' Cichlasoma dimerus guarding a huge number of fry . . . all from a female about 3" SL. A very prolific species, to say the least.

Beautiful fish! I love the port types. I haven't had the chance to own dimerus but I've bred and raised amazonarum and they were wonderful, prolific fish even from a small size. They're not quite as colorful as some of the other port types though.

I wish you lived down here. You have so many fry I'd love to get my hands on!

I wish I lived down there too, after a winter like we've just had.
 
Very nice. I caught a post of yours somewhere where (if I remember correctly) you mentioned getting a couple of unusually nice males, prettier than the original parents. I'm guessing the male above is one of them?

I haven't kept dimerus, but that's something I've experienced with various species, getting one or two or a few of what I call 'super fish' in some spawns, exceptionally pretty and sometimes larger growing than average. And as long as they're not also extra aggressive, which occasionally happens with them ime, they're typically my keepers for a fish I'm breeding.

Thanks. No the male in the video is nice but not quite as good as this one, which is in another tank continuing to grow out.

Must be the time right time of year! My WC Cichlasoma sp. "La Palma" (from the northeast of Uruguay) just bred for me yesterday!
