Please list any info on behavior, and tankmates, and also post pics of a hartwegi you have kept. We have one at the store, and I am considering it.

nope but they seem cool

Ok, LOL thanks for the bump.

Think it's a Vieja sp. wurm.. Most are aggressive but a couple are not so aggressive. Don't know about hartwegi but you'll have more luck searching under vieja..

I'll search it, thanks!

lfs has a group, bro might get em. He's been lookin.

dont think they moved it from the Vieja/Paratheraps group but he also has it as a C. Hartwegi.

Did ya get it wurm?

I have 2 growing out right now. mine are pretty small. I've heard they can be aggressive and are similar to Vieja Breidohri but i don't have much experience with this species. All the pics i've seen are really cool and Mountain Pike has a rather large male that I couldn't take my eyes off the last time i was over there.

The male that I used to have...

IME, they were quite aggressive but mixed well with other vieja's.

Aye, they are still in the Vieja/Paratheraps group...some LFS still label them as Cichlasoma though....lol. Definately a bruiser, not quite as aggressive as black belts and zonatus, but they aren't to be fooled around with. Gorgeous as adults, if you have the tank space and other robust fish, go for it. Definately not your typical 'community' tank fish...lol.
