I have no experience with cichlia but I went to my lfs today and saw they had 2 in and I have never seen them in this store before they were each $12.99. I was wondering if anyone would think just growing them out then selling them would be a bad idea? I have a 20long that is empty that I could keep them in for a very short time then a empty 90gallon I could keep them in for awhile and then just sell them or give them to someone or I might possibly have a bigger tank by then. I just wanted opinions also idk anything about them the guy just said they were peacock bass. I would be looking for a new tank as soon as I got them if I do. Any suggestions would be much appropriated or past experiences.

Chances are they are mono/ocell hybrids, which seem to be the most commonly available & consequently least desirable variation. I saw one at my lfs a while back and grabbed it regardless.

I actually did the same thing you are planning: grew him out in a 20L until I felt he was big enough to go safely into the 120.

While I can't speak to their resale value at larger sizes, I can tell you they are fun fish to raise.

Your plan will be ok as long as you provide good water quality, I had a friend try out basses and his nitrate was ranging 20-40 and they didn't survive pellet training

I broke my Orino by teacher fish, I used a TF barb and leopard cten. Worked like a charm, had him eating in no time. Now he munches hikari cichlid gold like its his job, more then one pellet at a time.

It also helps that you have 2, my exp w/ pairing Orinos was bad, the smaller one wouldn't eat, the bigger one would bully it constantly, and then when it did start going after pellets it went after the same one my red wolf was. Bad idea. That smaller one is dead now. But orinos are nasty, other species you pretty much need to have more then one at such a small size. It'll make them much more comfortable!

As far as selling a grown out mono/cell/hybrid like those, it won't fetch much more then you bought it for unless they turn into stunners
