i guess this goes for african cichlids to but anywaysss well tommorow im getting a 20 gal set up and some things from a 55 gal tank filter rocks decorations ect from my good friend for $50 since hes moving on to reptiles:P so are there any kinds of cichlids that could live alright in a 20? just wondering

if u want to go african...then go w/ brichardi...the max size is around 3" - 4" and u can keep a whole colony in 20...they will breed and raise colonies...and they are beautiful as well..

There's a small mom'npop's place in the San Francisco. He's bred a colony of Brich's in 20g's for many years. Each tank is heavily planted. Every tank contains one adult pair, but dozens of offspring from different spawns.

I would only put a male and female pair in there. When I had several adults the two that paired up killed the rest.

I've heard people putting pairs of Julidochromis sp. in 15g tanks. There are probably many other options, but as the most cichlids mature, they should be in something a little larger.
