I have a 75 gallon tank. After getting rid of some fish, I am left with the following:

4 Neon Tetras
1 Zebra Danio
1 Pleco 8''
1 Clown Loach
1 zebra Loach
1 Rainbow Shark

I absolutely hate the neons and the danio. They just aren't what I'm used to seeing, and they are just too small for my liking.

I had posted earlier that I wanted a Jack Dempsey, and I still do. I am also thinking a Blue Frontosa might fit the bill... I just want something larger that will fill my tank and look nice.

I don't really care about my tetras, and if they get eat, well so be it.

But I would like to keep the rest..

Can Cichlids and loaches live together? I am looking to get small cichlids (2'').

Any help would be great!

I was going to keep gouramis instead, but I for some reason haven't had any luck with them and I can't figure out why.

Frontosa's and Clowns are both slow growers, so they wouldn't be a problem. The JD may or may not eat the loach. I have had mine eat fish bigger than my loaches. Before I started adding onto my colony, I had about 15 clowns with my 4 Fronts and they looked great together.

Well, I have been debating on a JD or a Frontosa, and I really like the looks of the frontosa, so I think I might go with them.

I just don't want my loaches eaten. They are my favorites.

Frontosa is african and requires somewhat different food and water parameters thatn a JD or your other fish and would more than likely get his butt kicked by the JD. Loaches and Cichlids are kept together by most everyone, or close to it at some point or another and usually work out just fine.

Id say leave all the loaches, danio & tetras, get the JD and see how that works out for you. If you get the JD small, you could probably get a convict as well. Good Luck!

Which need a more alkaline water? The frontosa or the JD?

I don't know much about these fish, so research is going to be done before I just plop one in the tank.

If you go with the fronts, make sure you give them a good veggie based diet.

Are there more than just blue fronts? I can only find blue ones

There are different variants of Fronts. As far as color, mainly just blues, though the different variants means different hues. We used to have a red Front, which most people say is a genetic defect, but he was cool. I lost him and about 20 other front juvies to a horrible tank crash. Only have one left from that batch. he's about 4 inches now.
