I came across this looking for shelly biotope info.

Biotopes

I haven't looked at all of them, just the Tanganyika, but it's laid out well and to the point, with underwater video at the location/body of water that the biotope is emulating.
There are African and SA biotopes, so I figured I would post it in this subforum (my home away from home)

They have:
Lake Tanganyika Biotope
Videos Of Lake Tanganyika
The Biotope Aquarium Explained
Videos Of An Amazone River Biotope
Lake Malawi Biotope
Amazone: Blackwater Biotope
Amazone: Clearwater Biotope
Amazone: Whitewater Biotope

Enjoy, I hope this helps as it helped me with my little shelly biotope setup - some more food for thought.

Good example I figured I would add:
I wanted just a couple small plants for the shelly tank and as it turns out, there is really only one plant type native to their natural environment.
Now I know what to put in there and how limited I am (to one type of plant, lol)

subscribed, very nice reccomendation...
hopefully i'll be doing the clearwater amazon biotope soon.

Your only limited if thats what you decide to do.

Clearwater is a nice choice. I don't think I could do a blackwater tank and keep it truly authentic with the tannin water.

I am limiting myself because I want to be as true to the "biotope" as possible. I am breaking my neck to get Neothauma Tanganyicense shells because they come from the lake.

well, the best of luck to ya!

I appreciate it!
Doing the tank in stages, as the shells alone may cost $60+

 thats a little pricey...
how many would you need?

I am figuring 4 shells per fish (I read that's optimal) X 6 fish @ $4 a piece = that's $96, so I have to do some price manuevering.
If you find something cheaper and in stock, PM me. These are harder to find than asian arowanas (not that I am looking, they are illegal)

Bump for the handful interested :D
