The other day i was going through some of my old aquarium books and realized just how useless they are. Some were outdated and others just had wrong information. So i was wondering do any of you have any recommendations for good cichlid books or fish in general?

This can't be recommended highly enough: The Cichlid Fishes: Nature's Grand Experiment In Evolution by George Barlow http://www.amazon.com/The-Cichlid-Fishes-Experiment-Evolution/dp/0738205281 If Darwin had been studying cichlids instead of finches he would have discovered natural selection sooner! This is not about maintaining an aquarium; it's about the evolution of cichlids. Makes me wish I'd gone into Ichtyology.

I consider it the most comprehensive and frequently updated resource available...
Cichlid taxonomy is frequently changing, so names are nearly always "wrong" in books. It reflects scientific progress.
That said, Loiselle's "The Cichlid Aquarium" and Konings's "Central American Cichlids" books are both good references.

Agree with Judge Holden, and Matt, but I've been collecting cichlid books for 50 years, and try to learn something from them all.
I have always heard South american eartheaters by thomas weidner is an amazing book but they stopped making copies so you can only buy it for a pretty penny new. But you may be lucky if someone sells it for around $200

I have a copy and it's...OK....pretty dated at this point...
Another AMAZING resource is the ACA. A web membership ($15/yr I think) gets you online access to current and past issues of the Buntbarche Bulletin (BB)... back to the 1960s!
Just about every current "holy grail" fish has been in and out of the hobby a couple of times. And there's probably a BB article or 3 about it.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to sign up for those magazines; I'd like to learn some more about cichlid taxonomy. I'm gonna pass on the eartheater book though, sounds interesting just not 750 dollars interesting
