I got a 29 gallon and i am looking for a canister that is pretty good i just bought a cascade 700 and ia m taking it back because it looks so cheap but does anyone have a good recommendation for a 29 gallon canister that is good with cichlids as well?

Go for one of the small eheim classics 2213-2215 would filter that tank with ease and you wont find a better built filter.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If it were me, I would def go at least the 2215. In fact, go with the 2217 just in case you ever decide to upgrade in the future. Eheim classic canisters are great products--silent and never any problems with mine.
