I believe she is in Africa. It's a great program. You might also consider joining the American Cichlid Association which I believe started it.

Various local fish clubs also have CARES programs.
For example, CCA has a dedicated area of our forum for listing and discussion which CARES species members are keeping and breeding. In addition, members get additional BAP (Breeder Award Program) points for breeding and auctioning CARES species.
CARES ultimately depends on hobbyists maintaining and sharing certain species to keep them pure and available in the hobby.
A complement to CARES is support of various projects to actually conserve and preserve cichlid habitats. The Nature Conservancy, Rivers International and others are active in Central America, South America and Africa...

Their habitat is right in my county.
I've wondered whether there is any program preserving some in aquaria, since the population is so limited. I know DFG manages their locations.
