Hello folks! I'm fairly new to the hobby as I've only had a tank for around 6 months. I haven't lost a fish during this time, but I think my German Red Peacock is sick. It has never had any problems with the food I give it. I feed it New Life Spectrum and supplement with flake food. Sometimes I give my fish peas. The past five days, I've noticed the German Red will spit out all of his food and appears to be losing interest in eating. I did some research and thought it was possibly bloat. I raised the temp in the tank and tried epsom salts. After I put in the salt, I noticed my blue peacock had white poop, which led me to thinking parasites. (I had recently put in a new fish) I bought some Prazipro and put that in the tank. The german red still isn't eating. None of the other fish seem sick (including the blue peacock) and I haven't seen any bloat. The german red still swims around, but not like he used to. Should I be using a different medication or do I have my diagnosis wrong? I really like this fish, would hate to lose it!

What are your water parameters, and what are the tank mates? Btw Welcome to MFK:)

Nitrates are at 20, Ammonia levels are zero. I'll admit I haven't checked the nitrites. I have an electric yellow, two red zebras, an auratus, the blue peacock (I'm not sure of the exact kind) and a green terror. I also have an orange seamed pleco. I haven't had any issues with aggression and no one seems to really get picked on. I know the green terror is kind of out of place with the other species, but he seems to do ok. Thanks for the welcome. I love the hobby, its very addicting.

Yes the hobby is very addictive, I forgot to mention posting a pic of peacock it will help members to give their analysis on what to do. Keep your eyes on those African cichlids for aggression.

I posted a picture of the blue peacock too, he still seems healthy. He had the white poop though. The second pic is of the german red.

Sorry pops wanted your input on what could possibly be wrong with members peacock cichlid the thread title is cichlid-disease-diagnosis.

I like to keep my nitrates to below 20ppm. 20pm is water change for me but that is not extremely high and should not be causing your issues. I would run a course of paragaurd.

tank is young and may be experiencing fish just going through there stages as they reach maturity. The juvenile that ate like a pig, may lay off food for a few weeks, keep the water pristine, treat with the paragaurd and then go from there.
