This is weird, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has eaten any of the fish commonly kept as pets. I know that people eat Oscars where they are in the wild, and tilapia of course, but what about RD's, Jack's, Jaguars, Midas, Severums, or even oddballs like BGK's, Bichirs, other Knife fish...Not like going to the petstore and buying one just to eat it, but more like caught one in the wild or went to an exotic restaurant afar and they were on the menu.

I ask because beside my love for keeping fish, I also love eating them.

0_o erm... i wouldn't eat my fish that i raised in my tank :D I know what they have eaten

Nope, I would not eat my fish, I love them too much. I have an oscar, Wally and I would never eat him. But I like red lobster and I have blue lobsters, I try not to think of them when I eat it, lol.

I didnt say eat your pet fish, I meant eat the same kind of fish we keep keep in the hobbie example: cichlids, knifefish, loaches, gourami(da big ones)...

Fish are friends, not food!

I'd chomp the heck out of Nemo.

bahahaha

i've kept all kinds of natives, bream, crappie, bass, catfish - and i've also enjoyed eating a good bit of them. (typical prefer going and catching fresh saltwater fish, just had a fish fry saturday nomnomnom)

i feel like trying to get sufficient meat off a bichir would be a waste of time, same with knife fish, it'd be about the same as trying to clean a lizardfish and u wouldn't get much out of them i don't think. I bet the larger cichlids are tasty though :nilly:

IDK they are similar in body to eel's and I LOVE to eat some BBQ EEL! Just wouldnt bother with the small one like AKF or Senegals.

true i guess a large clown knife or ornate could potentially be cleaned effectively, i've never tried eating eel i just get irritated when i catch them

I've only had Eel Nigiri, its my favorite sushi next to spicy tuna roll.
